Tax documents and reporting for GoRoute couriers
Last updated January 15, 2026
As an independent contractor delivering with GoRoute, you're responsible for reporting your income and paying your own taxes. GoRoute provides the forms and tools you need to stay on top of your tax obligations.
Tax forms
If you earned $600 or more in a calendar year, GoRoute issues a 1099-NEC form. If your gross payment volume exceeded $5,000, you may also receive a 1099-K. Forms are available by January 31 in Account > Tax Info > Tax Documents and are mailed to your address on file.
Deductible expenses
Common tax deductions for GoRoute couriers include:
- Mileage: The IRS standard mileage rate for every mile driven on deliveries. Track your miles with a mileage app for accuracy.
- Insulated delivery bags: Bags you purchase for keeping food at safe temperatures are a business expense.
- Phone and data plan: The business-use portion of your cell phone bill.
- Phone mount and accessories: Mounts, chargers, and other gear used while delivering.
- Bike or scooter maintenance: If you deliver by bicycle or scooter, repair and maintenance costs are deductible.
Quarterly estimated taxes
GoRoute does not withhold taxes from your earnings, so you may need to make quarterly estimated tax payments to avoid penalties. These are due in April, June, September, and January. Use IRS Form 1040-ES to estimate your payments, or consult a tax professional for guidance.
Year-round record keeping
GoRoute provides an annual earnings summary in the Tax Documents section, but we recommend keeping your own records of miles, expenses, and receipts throughout the year. Good records ensure you capture every available deduction and simplify filing when tax season arrives.
