Emergency assistance and the in-app panic button

Last updated March 9, 2026

GoRoute includes several safety features designed to protect you in an emergency. The most important is the in-app emergency button, which gives you rapid access to help when you need it most.

Where to find the emergency button

The emergency button is accessible through the shield icon displayed on your screen during any active trip. Tap the shield to open the Safety Toolkit, then tap Emergency Assistance. You can also access it from the home screen by tapping the shield icon in the bottom menu bar.

What happens when you press it

When you activate emergency assistance, GoRoute does two things simultaneously:

  1. Connects you to 911: The app initiates a call to emergency services and pre-fills your current GPS location so dispatchers can find you quickly even if you can't speak freely.
  2. Alerts GoRoute's safety team: A real-time alert is sent to GoRoute's 24/7 safety response center with your trip details, location, and rider information. A safety specialist will follow up with you after the situation is resolved.

Sharing your trip with trusted contacts

GoRoute lets you share your live trip status with up to three trusted contacts. When enabled, your contacts receive a link showing your real-time location, the route, and your expected arrival time. Set up trusted contacts in Account > Safety > Trusted Contacts. You can choose to share automatically on every trip or share manually on a per-trip basis.

RideCheck

GoRoute's RideCheck feature uses sensors in your phone to detect unusual events during a trip, such as a long unexpected stop or a possible collision. If something seems off, the app sends you a notification asking if everything is okay. If you don't respond within a few minutes, GoRoute's safety team is automatically alerted. RideCheck runs in the background and requires no setup — it's active on every trip by default.
